Shoes are fabulous – even if they’re not always comfortable – Kimora

We all know I have an affinity for shoes. I love how they can transform an outfit, make a statement, and that they always fit. Kimora said it best. They are fabulous, but they aren’t always comfortable. Comfort knows no brand when it comes to shoes, and even the most expensive shoes can ache. Construction is key when it comes to determining if a shoe will be comfortable, and also in how long that comfort will last before you’re hoping. While you can’t change the construct of a shoe, you can supplement it.

The first step in making a shoe more comfortable, is to identify why their hurting. There’s little that can be done for a shoe that is the wrong size, but chaffing, sliding, and pressure can be relieved easily.

Expert Tip: Go shopping for shoes in the afternoon, your feet swell throughout the day and are their largest at the end of the day.

Instep Cushions, provide support for the balls of your feet, and also prevent them from sliding forward. There are both gel and foam variations. The gel ones tend to be thinner, allowing more room in tighter shoes; but don’t provide as much cushion as the foam ones.

Insoles are great for all over comfort and work well with shoes that have a hard bottom. One caveat, unless custom made, insoles may not be shaped appropriately for all your shoes, and may need to be trimmed.

Moleskin is a lifesaver to combat chaffing and rubbing and can be found in most drugstores. It can be cut to your needs, and some even have adhesive on the back. It is typically “flesh” colored, but since we all aren’t the same color, I would recommend coloring it with a marker, if you have to apply it in an area that may become visible such as inside a peep toe.

Other shoe-savers to keep in your arsenal might include chaffing gel (click here to see how this product can pull double duty); Antiperspirant, yes deodorant!  works well with synthetic material that can make your feet sweat, and shoe grips for smooth bottoms.

Not in my everyday work related clothing, but on the weekend, and most casual functions, a pair of skinny jeans, sky high heels, and a tank could be considered my uniform.  Add a chic blazer and boots, and I’m set for the cooler months ( I caution to say “cold” in South Florida).  For me, its all or nothing. I’m either super dressed or in my uniform. I like my rut. It’s comfortable, easy, and fits my style character.

I treat my jeans and tee ensemble like the LBD. I dress it up and down with accessories. I let the shoes or statement necklace get all the glory, and it works for me.  Anything else, and I might feel over dressed.

I am on a dire quest for a messenger style satchel, and the urban decay naked palette. Consider them both mine if I ever find them. I am also lusting for a trapper hat that Florida’s weather will not permit, so that most likely won’t happen.  

Speaking of the UD Naked palette, I had made up my mind that I did not need it, until I stopped into my local Ulta and swatched a few of the colors. Fortunately for me and my debit card, they were sold out, but now I need it. I purchased the NYX nude on nude palette in an attempt to satisfy my lust for naked, while a nice palette, it didn’t fill the void.

Fall 2010 is an exciting season, there are a ton of wearable fashion and beauty trends to choose from! While I likely won’t be trying a dark lip, clogs or kitten heels, I am anxious to get going on these:

1. Flawless Face: I’ve been perfecting my contouring skills and as soon as it cools off in Florida, I am going for a full face of flawless makeup. I’m anxious to break out my MAC Studio tech for that all over glow

2. Graphic Eyes:  During CVS’s last BOGO sale on Maybelline I picked up a liquid liner with this trend in mind. I’ve been using it everyday since! I abandoned liquid liners for creme liners a while ago, only using it when I applied falsies, I have been missing out!! Needless to say, I’m glad I rediscovered my old love and I’m sure I’ll be going through a few tubes.

3. Military Detail: I’m glad this trend stuck around. I bought a few military inspired jackets last season, that I didn’t get to wear much. Florida’s two months of cold weather didn’t allow me to. I plan to wear the jackets with jean and thigh high and ankle boots (another trend that I should have added)

4. Leather: I usually reserve leather for shoes and coats, but I purchased a pair of leather shorts and a mini skirt that I am dying to pair with some boots, tights, and girly accessories to soften the toughness of the material.

5. Camel: This color was seen all over the runways, and will be seen all over my closet this season also.

Are you the type of person to change your purse daily to match your outfits, only change on the weekend, or do you have one that you wear week end and out?

By day, pair sequins with dark wash jeans, khakis, and/or a blazer (or wear a sequin blazer!) for a trendy, but not overly done look. In the day it is best to limit sequins to one area such as a tank or cardigan. By night, go all out. Try pairing a sequin top with a leather skirt or rock the trend all over with a full sequin mini dress.

Expert Tip: Due to their shiny nature, sequins draw the eye to where they are worn, stray from wearing sequins in your problem areas, or if you do, opt for darker colors like black or charcoal.
