Review: Sonia Kashuk Blending Sponge

#MakeupMonday A few weeks ago I spotted the Sonia Kashuk blending sponge at Target, and since I had been planning to try the Beautyblender I decided to give this one a try. Also, it was less expensive at $9.99 and purple, which since I’m darker, I assumed would look less dingy after a few uses.

I went online to Target.com so that I could post what the manufacturer “claims” this product should do, but there were none for the Sonia Kashuk sponge. Since it basically mimics the Beautyblender, here is what it claims:

Now you can look like a movie star without the pricey services of a major make up artist. Introducing Beautyblender, the ultimate make up sponge applicator. Invented by top Hollywood make up artists Rea Ann Silva and Veronica Lorenz, Beautyblender has been created to leave you with a professional finish and a flawless complexion. Silva and Lorenz know that the key to a perfect face is simple: a perfect blend. So forget your fingers or sharp-edged triangular sponges, these application methods waste make up and can leave visible streaks.

Beautyblender’s patent-pending elliptical shape makes application foolproof by allowing you to access hard-to-reach areas with stunning ease. Its suede texture is sensual to the touch and its unique curves fit the contours of your face, leaving your make up dazzling and undetectable. Beautyblender is latex free, non-allergenic and odor free.  (Source: beautyblender.net)

My final verdict, is that I LOVE THIS SPONGE !!!!! In case you all didn’t know, I am no make up guru, and like to keep my makeup looks and routine simple. This sponge makes it so easy, and is great for the beginners. Prior to this, I used either my MAC stippling brush or my Sonia Kashuk flat top blush brush for applying my foundation. Those brushes are great, and I am in no way undermining them, but truth be told if you are a novice to liquid and cream foundations, you could easily end up with streaks and lines in your foundation. The blending sponge is fool proof, and still gives you the airbrushed look. Plus, it’s great for traveling as you only need just the sponge for foundation and concealer application.

To use it, you start out by wetting the sponge with water and then squeezing the water out. The sponge will be damp, but not feel wet. (Trust me, you definitely want to wet it first) Dip it in your favorite foundation or concealer and then using a stippling/circular motion apply it to your face. Use the small end to cover hard to reach spots.

It is extremely simple and allows you to build up your foundation to the desired coverage. I have used it with MAC studio fix fluid and Revlon Colorstay with success. As always, when applying liquid foundation, I set it with a powder and more recently in my routine– finishing with MAC FIX+ spray (I don’t know what I have been doing without this in my life!)

IMAG0049So, all in all – 10 out of 10 for this product. I used it for my foundation in the photo on the left. I know its not the best for detail, lol, but hey no streaks! Here is a video to help you understand how to use it.
