What is Casual Friday?
Many employers have implemented a casual Friday or jeans Friday program. The one day out of the week that you are able to wear jeans. Depending on your work environment this may or may not mean being able dress down. Yes, I know that jeans are the epitome of dressing down, but there are rules to follow in the corporate world when it comes to wearing jeans.
A lot of employers use the terms casual Friday and jeans Friday synonomously, however there are differences. It is important to understand your work environment and what is expected, even if your employer utilizes the incorrect term.
Jeans Friday, what is often desired, means that you can wear jeans, but your shirt, shoes, and all other articles of clothing must still be within dress code. Casual Friday is the most commonly used term to refer to this practice and means just that, on Fridays you can dress casually. This would mean that some Tshirts, polo shirts, sandals etc.. may be allowed.
If you are not certain what your employer actually means when they say casual Friday, interpret it as Jeans Friday. Casual Friday’s are usually reserved for offices that do not have much customer interaction. Shorts are almost never allowed any in case.
The best type of jeans for the workplace have a dark or classic wash, and no holes, excessive logos or distressing. Check out our casual Friday posts for inspiration.
This casual Friday look can easily be transformed into an after work outing. Just replace the jeans with tights and pair with a clutch.
