Ask the Aficionado: How to deal with a freezing office

TSA reader DeAnna writes in with the following question:

I work in a conservative professional office, where I have frequent interactions with customers and must be presentable at all times. I have one problem though, our office is freezing. I have a jacket that I wear only at my desk, but I would like something stylish to wear outside of my cubicle. Our dress code is business casual with jeans on Friday. Thank you any help

Keeping warm in an office environment can be tricky. It is a feeling I know all too well being in FL. As the temperature outside goes up, the thermostat inside goes down – twice as fast. There have been times in the middle of July that I would be working in an office with a scarf and gloves with the hot summer sun outside smiling on me. One of my clients had a space heater in her office!

Your best bet for keeping warm would be to take all the office furniture and use it as fire wood. If burning the furniture constitute grounds for termination here are a few alternate solutions:

A boyfriend blazer, pashmina or cardigan. These item are the most versatile and will integrate seamlessly into any one’s business casual wardrobe. I suggest you purchase a neutral solid color, and if you’re going for the blazer find one that has a lining. Black is fail-proof, but you could also try brown and grey; just keep in mind which color will complement your current wardrobe best. You could also keep another color in your desk or car, that way you have two options.

Another solution is panty hose. Go for a nude color (nude meaning matching your skin tone not the color on the packaging.) These are win win, they make your legs look great, some can even double as shape wear, and they provide a little warmth. You can even get them footless for the days you wear open or peep toe shoes!

I hope this helps!
