Tips for always looking great
Lets face it looking great all the time is a lot of work. There’s hair that needs to be done, shaved or plucked, manicures, pedicures, exfoliating, dressing, pressing and stressing. You name it, we have to do it. Here are a few tips and products to help keep us looking pristine, even on the worst of days.
1. Organize your closet. I cannot stress this enough. Check out our previous post here, on how to do it. In addition to organizing your closet, create two go to outfits. These outfits are like your life saver, for those time crunched days. One for work and one for play. Ideally both of these outfits should be transitional and with minor changes go from day to night. Choose, or at least mentally note what accessories go with the outfits.
- Try layering a black strapless dress over or under a basic white button down, with a blazer or both. Remove the white blouse for after work activities.
2. Perfect a 5 minute face. When pressed for time, it is easier to concentrate on a strong lip versus eye. If you aren’t keen on playing up your pout, find a eyeshadow quad that works for you.Coordinated quads, that have colors for each area of the eye are perfect for going from day to night. TSA recommends MAC notoriety or Maybelline Stylish smokes quad in natural smokes
- Although you are pressed for time, use caution when applying your 5 min face. You wouldn’t want to have to reapply a faulty application.
- The key to a flawless face is a great skin care routine, and groomed brows. To extend your brow shape and gain a few days between waxing, TSA recommends plucking away stray hairs as they appear. (We have also heard that deodorants that slow hair growth, such as dove visibly smooth, can be applied around your brows to slow the hair growth – This has not been tested by us, but doesn’t sound too far fetched)
3. Foolproof hair: A bun is always chic, both messy and sleek work.

4. Chipped nails are a sure indicator of deferred maintenance. Purchase a clear top coat, and apply yourself to extend your manicure. TSA is also a big fan of Sally Hansen’s Insta Dri nail polishes for a quick polish change. For a fast french manicure we recommend Kiss custom fit press on nails. Trust me, they are nothing like the Lee press on nails from yester-year.
5. Veet or Nair – I prefer veet because of the little tool it comes with, but they both stink (scent wise). Never the less it gets the job done. I love hair removal creams, and no cuts.
6. Oil absorbing pads. For obvious reasons. If you’re out, toilet seat liners work well for getting the shine out without smearing your make up.
7. Pack your make up bag with multi use items. If you ever unexpectedly spend the night out, you should at a minimum be able to freshen up (make up remover wipes, deodorant, perfume), apply mascara and gloss, remove stains from clothes (in case you have to put them back on) and contain your hair. Samples and hotel toiletries work great for a m/u bag.
