Summer to Fall Transition
Getting the most out of your wardrobe is key for any budget conscious fashionista. The best way to do that is to be able to wear certain items year round. Of course it is easy to justify CPU (cost per use) for accessories, but what about that summer dress you splurged on, or the sleeveless tunic you purchased just before the cold set in? Here are a few tips to help you transition into Fall, without falling into debt, and what items you should store away until next year.
- Layer. Layer. Layer! This is THE key to incorporting your sunny weather clothing into the cool air of fall. Summer dresses paired with turtlenecks, blazers, and boots fit right in. You can also pair your shorts with tights or legging and boots. Again, I cannot stress this enough, it is actually the only tip you need – the remaining tips are more about implementation of layering
- Fall is about muted tones and colors; however, that doesn’t mean you need to put away all your bright colored summer items. Introduce them into your Fall wardrobe as pops of color, and limit the pop to one item. For example; pair your fall greys with a yellow cardigan or teal purse.
- Go monochromatic. Pair your neutral colored summer items with like colored fall items, and accessories.
- Experiment with your make up and nail polish. Mix bright colors with darker ones to create a custom Fall shade.
- Get crafty. Purchased something last summer that you can’t take back and you know you’ll never wear? Do a google search for DIY clothing projects. Many items can be re-purposed into scarves, and other accessories.
- Put away the strappy sandals and flip flops. There is nothing cute about cold feet, and DON’T YOU DARE try to pair socks with sandals.
- Keep the statement jewelry out.
- Flowy summer prints turn boho chic when paired with dark denim, scarves and cardigans.
- Cinch dresses at the waist with a belt to add shape and wear as a top with jeans or jeggings.
- Layer your lace leggings over grey or black ones.
Fall is a transitional season, so most of your items are Fall safe as long as you know how to incorporate them.
